The Descent Essays

The two books, Part by Part

THE TWO BOOKS, PART BY PART

Read the Descent slowly

The Yoga of the Descent was born as two books. The first, the Door Book, accompanies the moment when something begins to happen in an ordinary life. The second, the Book of the Dwelling, shows the architecture that holds it.

Here I have gathered them in 42 essays, one for each Part, so that you can walk through them at your own pace. Each one ends with a short practice taken from the book itself.

You do not need to read them in order. You can begin where your life is today: with the door, with the body, with the heart, or with the word.

THE TREE

Nine branches, from the Door to the lamp

Branches I to V follow the Door Book; branches VI to IX, the Book of the Dwelling.

BRANCH I · LIBRO PUERTA

The Door

When something begins to happen in an ordinary life

“You are not alone with this. What you are feeling is a real experience, even if we do not yet know what it means.” Having an experience is a moment. Being transformed by it is a life.

FROM THE DOOR TO THE DWELLING

The second book

The Door Book walks beside what is happening to you. The Book of the Dwelling names the house where it happens: Consciousness, soul, Monad and Flame, Grace, the levels of the body, the word and the Codex.

BRANCH IX · LIBRO DE LA MORADA

The house becomes a lamp

Dreams, the second ascent and what the map cannot reach

The first ascent seeks. The Descent embodies. The second ascent expresses. The house does not exist so that we always think about the house. It exists to be lived in.

WALKING IT TOGETHER

If something here touched you

These essays can be read alone, slowly. And if what you read is what you are living, you can write to me.
