The mystery of the I Am

Illumination · Branch III · The one who observes

“I recognize that I Am and that it is God in me.”From Devoción

If someone asked you right now who you are, you would most likely answer with your name. We answer to the name we were given at birth, to our gender and culture, because that is what we were taught. We believe we know ourselves because we know our minds and bodies, and we are bound to the person we are in appearance.

Yes, that is your personality. But your true Being is the I Am.

This is the greatest, most beautiful mystery. Such a profound and simple mystery opens the portal to a great revelation, capable of transforming the human heart.

The first thing you know about yourself

The I Am is the only knowledge the Being has of itself. Whenever we talk about Consciousness, we are actually talking about ourselves. The spirit does not recognize itself by any name, affiliation or experience; it is life itself. What you really are is prior to every idea and every personality, and it is free of all conflict.

Do you feel alive? This means God is there for you, that He is life itself, taking part in each word and each feeling. God is present even in the quality of your thoughts, no matter how random.

The same I Am

If you want to establish a relationship with God, you must first establish one with yourself. That is the mystery: the I Am in me and you is the I Am of God.

To live this relationship, there is no need to bend the knee before an image. You can get to know God through yourself, and not through something external. He is God, and you are part of His essence; you can see yourself through Him and acknowledge His presence in you. Your body is a haven for Divinity.

This is how I have lived since my awakening: my relationship is with God. I Am in the divine Consciousness; I am one with it, I am one with everything. Live in a relationship with yourself too, and He will reveal Himself to you. Joy is the proof that it is so.

A mystery without end

There is something that will never be solved, because it is a divine mystery, and that is why it has no end: the mystery of existence, of the Divine Presence. As we dive deeper into this relationship with the Father-Mother, we open the first gate toward this revelation: everything that lives around us is Consciousness itself.

Remember that this mystery is not something you have to unravel. It cannot be put together like a puzzle, because it is everlasting. The experience you build with God is between you and Him, and each one lives it in their own way. You will never grow great enough to say you are God, but a veil is broken with each step you take, and there is always something new to be discovered.

In silence, not in words

All of this goes beyond intellectual comprehension; it exceeds reason. The mind will always find a way to avoid a relationship with the present, and that is why we talk about a process of the heart: feeling devotion and living in wonder. After experiencing that silence, it is impossible to put it into words, and the mind is rendered speechless. This is where the mystery of life takes place.

It is as simple as surrendering to your own heart, letting life flow and allowing the Being to take care of you. It is not an act of abandonment; on the contrary, it is the act of not being in the mind, of simply being present.

The devotional act consists of dissolving the mind, again and again, into that which I Am. Whatever thought or idea arises in you, dissolve it into that feeling of life: that is how your awakening will come about. And even if the mind dissolves, what you really are goes on being.

This relationship with consciousness is the great door to the I Am, a door that can never be closed, because your consciousness is always available to itself every time you become present with it.

A meditation of the heart

Let me share with you a simple meditation to connect with the heart and flow from there. Look for a comfortable and private place; if you like, record your own voice so that you can be your own guide. Close your eyes, relax and become aware of your breathing, filling your abdomen with air as you inhale and letting it out slowly.

Bring your attention to the center of your chest. As you inhale, your perception goes toward the heart and fills it with light and warmth; as you exhale, that light expands throughout your body. Feel your breathing as if it were an accordion.

Then, one by one, carry things in your breathing. Shapes: as you inhale, they dissolve into the void of the heart, and as you exhale, they come out again. Thoughts: as you inhale, they return to the heart like children going back to the classroom after recess, and as you exhale, they go out to play again. Then feelings, and finally the body, or the idea of having one.

At the end, carry everything at once: the universe, the thoughts, the feelings, the body and the environment dissolve as you inhale and return to form as you exhale. Feel the heart as a portal to infinity and offer all your life to God as an act of devotion. Realize that the witness of everything going in and coming out is still the Universal Being, the eye of God that sees everything.

Continue like this for about five more minutes: from the finite to the infinite, from thoughts into silence, from agitation to peace. Then become aware again of your body, of where you are and of your posture, and open your eyes.

He is with you

This path has no end. In fact, it is a constant beginning: the beginning of your relationship with your true Being.

Whenever you are in pain, He is with you. Whenever you are in a state of devotion, He is with you. Whenever you are learning, He is with you. Whenever you are experiencing glorious moments, He is with you.

When you start living like this, your reality changes completely. It does not mean you will have a better partner or that you will be promoted at work, but some of your perceptions about yourself, your environment, and the people and situations around you will change. It is that sacred, as He is everywhere. You do not need words to recognize Him: He is listening whenever you choose to talk to Him.
